I only wish I were as infinitely happy as fellow Brooklynites Matt & Kim. These remixes are a start to getting me there. Nothing is quite as good as the original, but considering how fucking great "Yea Yeah" is, there still is a lot of room for these remixes to be rather awesome. Cheers.

White Rabbits are an NYC by way of Missouri band. Their debut, Fort Nightly, was released by Say Hey Records yesterday. They're opening for Mystery Jets at their June 2nd Bowery Ballroom show. I highly suggest picking up the new record here. Enjoy some selections.

Oh O'Death. You crazy guys with your banjos and fiddles and acoustic guitars. If you ever are within 100 miles of this band and they are performing, you should definitely find a way to be there. One of the best live bands around NYC at the moment. They are currently re-mixing their album for an Ernest Jenning Records release, but here are some of the original mixes.

Dawn Landes is a NYC singer/songwriter. I saw her backed by a full bluegrass band in Austin and it was one of the better performances I witnessed. Although she doesn't sound like Joanna Newsom, I tend to think of her in the same capacity as Newsom. Here are some treats. Oh, and she has a nice cover of Peter, Bjorn & John's "Young Folks" available on iTunes too.

Once I played in a band called Fucking Virgins, which I think is a better name than The Virgins, but they're a better band than we were. The Virgins are an NYC band I had never heard of until a few weeks ago, but when I came across this song I really dug it. For some reason (i.e. the bass line) the song reminds me of Sly & The Family Stones' "If You Want Me To Stay." That's a good thing though. These guys are on Atlantic so I'll probably have to pull this mp3 quickly, but get ahold of it if you can. And buy the record when their label lets you!

I figured since I live in Brooklyn it would be quite the faux pas for me to go so long without a post about a Brooklyn band. So here you are - Abigail Warchild. When I first saw them they were playing a friend's birthday party, so of course I was thinking, 'um, really, can't we just have a DJ, and by DJ I mean my iPod?' Luckily for me my ideas were run out of town cause Abi Warchild was more than entertaining. Ooh, and they gave out free CD's - bonus points!
